“KIBO DISCOVER PROJECT” is jointly conducted by Shueisha, JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency), and Basqueur, which is promoting further business development of KIBO space broadcasting stations. From August 2, you can enjoy the content “#きぼうを見よう× “ONE PIECE Space Daisakusen” linked to the iss (International Space Station) visible forecast service “#きぼうを見よう” on the special site. In “Space Strategy”, the Straw Hat Pirates aim for the ISS in search of “the Great Treasure of the Universe”, but the story unfolds that they get lost in space. Users use the AR guide on their smartphones to observe the location of the ISS and take on a mission to get the Ruffys right to their destination. Details will be announced on the special website and on Weekly Shonen Jump No. 35 (Shueisha) released on August 2.
On September 3, the official YouTube channel of “ONE PIECE” will be released with a special program starring JAXA astronaut Akihiko Hoshide, who is staying on the ISS. The project, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, will promote the development of information to schools nationwide. Serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” on July 22, 1997, a luxurious commemorative project will be launched on July 19 to reach 100 volumes of comics of the manga “ONE PIECE”, which has exceeded 490 million copies worldwide and is very popular not only in Japan but also on a global scale. The main feature is “KIBO DISCOVER PROJECT”.
The adventure story depicted by “ONE PIECE” and the history of space development resonate with the fundamental parts of “thinking far away”, “wanting to go to places you do not know”, and “challenging difficult things”.

JAXA Comment
JAXA is promoting the realization of business initiatives of ambitious companies through the use of J-SPARC and Kibo with the aim of sustainable development of the use of low earth orbit (outer space near the Earth), including ISS/Kibo.
In this “KIBO DISCOVER PROJECT”, we hope that this project will further develop and the use of new “Kibo” will expand in cooperation with new partners. JAXA will be responsible for technical collaboration, safety evaluation, installation and operation of on-track equipment related to the implementation of this project.
In addition, through new public relations and educational activities in which services and content owned by both private partners and JAXA cooperate, we will challenge to create opportunities for communication where people of different generations and ages look up at the air, interact with each other, and convey the charm of the universe.
