Hyundai Ioniq, Santa Cruz and Genesis GV70 survived to the end of the ‘2022 North American Car of the Year’ competition.
The organizing committee for ‘North American Car of the Year’ announced on the 18th that the Ioniq 5 and GV70 were selected as finalists in the utility category and Santa Cruz in the truck category, respectively.
With this, Hyundai Motor Group has nominated three models for the second year in a row following the Avante, G80, and GV80 in the North American Car of the Year finalists in 2021.
The Ioniq 5, which was nominated in the utility category, was the first Hyundai Motors electric vehicle model to be nominated for the North American Car of the Year finalist, confirming the local competitiveness of E-GMP-based electric vehicles. After that, he showed his potential to be nominated for the North American Car of the Year finale.
In addition, Santa Cruz was the first Korean car to be nominated in the truck category in the US market, the home of pickup trucks, adding meaning to it.
Honda Civic, Lucid Air and Volkswagen Golf Mk VIII were selected as finalists in the 2022 North American Car of the Year category. Ford Pronco was selected as a finalist in the Utility category, and Santa Cruz, Ford Maverick and Rivian R1T were selected as finalists in the Truck category.
The North American Car of the Year is voted on by a jury of 50 experts from the US and Canadian automotive media, television, radio and newspapers. The final results of the 2022 North American Car of the Year will be announced in January next year.
