The durability quality survey surveys the satisfaction of 184 items on the durability quality of customers after 3 years of purchase and then counts the number of complaints per 100 vehicles. The lower the score, the higher the quality satisfaction. This year’s durability quality survey was conducted on 29,487 vehicles, 139 models, and 32 brands, sold in the United States from July 2018 to February 2019.
Following last year’s ranking of No. 1 general brands, Kia ranked No. 1 in all brands this year and received the ‘Overall Nameplate Award’. This is the first time that a general brand has surpassed a luxury brand and ranked first in the durability quality survey alone.
Hyundai’s ranking also jumped four places from 7th last year to 3rd this year. It was followed by Kia and Buick (147 points).
Genesis also beat Lexus (159 points) to receive the ‘Premium Nameplate Award’. Among luxury brands, it rose from 4th last year to 1st this year.
By car model, Hyundai Santa Fe took first place in the midsize SUV category, Hyundai Sonata midsize car, and Kia Sorento upper midsize SUV car class, respectively.
