The electric car manufacturer Tesla has to remedy in the USA again on a large scale deficiencies that have been criticized by the traffic control. This time it’s about an outdoor speaker called a boombox on Tesla cars, which can get in the way of a warning sound for pedestrians while driving. Around 578,600 Tesla Model S, X, Y and 3 with years of construction between 2017 and 2022 are affected. That’s according to documents released Thursday by the U.S. Transportation Agency (NHTSA). In the U.S., pedestrians with a noise need to be warned about slow-moving electric cars because they are so quiet. A software update from Tesla should ensure that the boombox is deactivated while driving.

Under pressure from the US traffic regulator, Tesla had to promise in recent weeks and months to fix a number of defects in its cars. Although these repairs are referred to by the authority as recalls, Tesla can usually carry them out remotely via software updates. The vehicles do not have to be ordered to the workshops.

Just a week ago, Tesla pledged to eliminate problems with the seat belt alarm of 817,143 cars in the US. Shortly before, the manufacturer had agreed to deactivate a function of its driving assistance software “Full Self-Driving” for almost 54,000 cars in the USA, through which stop signs could be passed without a full stop under certain conditions.
