PSVR 2 has finally been revealed a bit more recently and the specs of the hardware are out. 4K HDR, improved tracking, more details in games, foveated rendering and more are the first buzzwords that Sony presented.
The power gained from the VR hardware and the PS5 now gives fans hope that many complex VR games will make it onto the PSVR 2. We will introduce you to some of them and show you what makes them so special.

The focus is that the titles have at least one special aspect that cannot be implemented with PSVR or can now be implemented even better with PSVR 2. None of the games presented here have yet been officially announced for the next VR headset.

Half Life Alyx

That’s what it’s about: Between the events of Half Life and Half Life 2 you take on the role of Alyx Vance. As part of the resistance, you must fight your way through City 17 and defend yourself against the aliens known as the Combine.
That’s what’s special: When it comes to what AAA gaming could look like in VR, this is Half Life Alyx the perfect example. Not only is the game visually up to date, but its understandable physics engine creates a lively world in which you can really lose yourself.
Stormland

That’s what it’s about: The action-adventure from Insomniac Games turns you and one other player into an android gardener with feelings of revenge. Because actually you only wanted to take care of the planet, but then the evil aliens came, killed you and took over the world. In revenge, the gardener becomes an android who wants to reclaim the planet.
That’s what’s special: Stormland is one of the few games in VR that is completely open world. This aspect is inspired by Breath of the Wild, so you can explore the world completely freely. In addition, the game manages to deliver a lot of content through co-op, crafting and an endgame mode, which procedurally regenerates the game every week.
Resident Evil 4 VR

That’s what it’s about: Resident Evil 4 VR is, as the name suggests, an implementation of the Gamecube and PS2 classic – only this time in virtual reality. You take on the role of Leon, who must travel to a Spanish village to rescue the US President’s daughter. And of course, there he again comes in contact with a new parasite that could threaten the whole world.
This is special: From a purely technical point of view, the port would run on all common systems. But it’s more about the added freedom of tracking your hands. Thanks to PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers, we could use the analog stick to move around the world and still have the ability to move hands-free.
This would allow us to interact with the world and would no longer be just a head that feels like it’s floating through the world, as with Resident Evil 7. Aiming is also no longer done by moving your head, but directly with your hands. All of this combined would only have been possible in the form on PSVR with cumbersome controls.
bone works

That’s what it’s about: In bone works you have to shoot your way through a laboratory and try to escape. You are a guinea pig for all sorts of physics gimmicks in a dynamic environment that reacts to your actions.
That’s what’s special: Boneworks really pushes the limits of what players can endure in VR. At breakneck speed, you shoot your way through enemy waves, jump through the air and shimmy through the laboratories. This makes the game only suitable for those who can tolerate VR very well.
Asgard’s Wrath

That’s what it’s about: Unsurprisingly, the adventure game is set in Norse mythology. As a mortal hero and as a god, you will experience sword fighting up close, which you must realistically imitate thanks to the movement controls. In addition, you also solve small puzzles, collect loot and explore the beautiful landscapes.
This is special: Asgard’s Wrath convinces by the length of the game alone. You can enjoy the main story for almost 30 hours. That’s half an eternity by VR standards. So enough time to really lose yourself completely in the Nordic world of the game.
The Climb 1 and 2

That’s what it’s about: As a professional climber, you race against the clock on your way to the top on predetermined courses in different environments. To do this, you have to grab ledges with your hands or jump after them, climb ladders or shimmy along ropes. The main attraction of the game is to break each other’s records with friends in multiplayer.
That’s what’s special: Crytek uses the Cry Engine for the climbing action, which creates a colorful but also realistic look. Combined with the PSVR 2 controllers’ haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, climbing could feel even more compelling.
Hellblade VR

That’s what it’s about: This is a full port of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice in VR. You accompany Senua on her trip to the borders of Helheim in search of the soul of her late love, Dillion. In addition, Senua’s delusions continue to drop, causing her to hear the voices of ghosts.
This is special: Hellblade VR is one of the most graphically rich VR games. Ninja Theory has taken the game very faithfully to the original, which is why there aren’t too many special VR gimmicks. You continue to control Senua from the third person and do everything with the controller. Paired with the 3D audio, Hellblade creates an even more intense atmosphere in VR than on TV.
Onward

That’s what it’s about: At first glance, Onward is one of many shooters in the VR field. You have to prevail as a team against another team. A lot of things seem like one at first Rainbow Six Siege. However, Onward is a tough military simulation and you have to pay even more attention to your surroundings.
This is special: You cannot rely on mini-maps or other technical aids in VR. Instead, you have to turn around yourself, aim your weapons accurately and, at best, communicate together. If you like military settings, you won’t go far wrong with Onward. Above all, immersion and realism ensure a special experience.
Lone Echo 2
- Genre: Adventure
- Platforms: Oculus Rift S
That’s what it’s about: In Lone Echo 2 you experience again a sci-fi adventure that takes place 400 years after the events of the first part. You are on an abandoned station and notice that the biomass, which was already a topic in the first part, has developed further. In order to find your way home you have to move through the station and avoid the danger of the “Ticks”.
This is special: When it comes to gameplay, you get more typical VR fare with a mix of cutscenes and puzzles in a zero-gravity situation. However, Lone Echo 2 manages to allow players to form a real relationship with Olivia, an in-game NPC. It reacts to what you’re doing and makes it feel really real. This ensures an enormous immersion in the sci-fi universe.
