Apple | Apple MacBook Pro 2022: when the new 13-inch model will go on sale | macbook

The Apple MacBook Pro 13 inch with M2 will be available to order soon – earlier than previously announced. The new edition of the entry-level model of the Pro notebook series can be pre-ordered from Friday, June 17 at 2 p.m. from the manufacturer and from authorized dealers, as Apple announced. Delivery to end customers should then start in the following week from June 24th.

The 13″ MacBook Pro is Apple’s first device to feature the new in-house M2 chip. Nothing has changed in terms of the case shape, and the model series also retains elements such as the touch bar. Charging via MagSafe is not possible here, the power supply remains via one of the two USB-C ports.

Apple promises another increase in performance with the M2. Certain workflows, such as processing RAW images, are said to be up to 40 percent faster than in the previous MacBook Pro with Apple’s M1 chip, which is also based on ARM. According to Apple, the M2 MacBook is also more than three times faster than the previous models with Intel processors in certain benchmarks. There are no independent benchmarks yet, Mac & i will test the new 13-inch MacBook Pro as soon as possible.

The M2 chip now supports up to 24 GB of RAM (now LPDDR5), Apple estimates a surcharge of 460 euros for the standard model with only 8 GB of RAM. The M2 also has a significantly higher memory transfer rate of 100 GB/s than the M1, a more powerful neural engine for machine learning and a media engine that speeds up work with videos. Apple says the battery life of the MacBook Pro 2022 is 20 hours when playing movies, continuous surfing should be possible for up to 17 hours, each time with the screen at about half the maximum brightness.

The basic model of the 13″ MacBook Pro costs just under 1600 euros from Apple, with the maximum equipment the price increases to almost 3000 euros. In retail, the prices for MacBooks are usually lower – but only some time after the start of sales.

The completely new MacBook Air 2022, which now also has an M2 chip, is scheduled to be delivered from July. However, Apple did not announce a specific date for the start of pre-orders and sales on Tuesday. Lockdowns in China, supply chain problems and chip shortages have recently caused significant problems with the availability of Apple’s notebook series.

With the MacBook Air with M2 chip, Apple has said goodbye to the pointed wedge shape.
