The new Apple MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro and M1 Max have found their first owners. We also published a test in the blog. However, there were quick complaints from the early adopters: the notch on the notebooks caused display problems in combination with some applications and menus. Certain symbols or text simply disappeared behind the recess. This should be at least partially fixed by macOS 12.1.
MacRumors reportsthat developers can already test a release candidate and there the error is now fixed, at least in relation to the so-called “Menu Bar Extras”. If there are problems with specific apps, the developers will have to do it again. If all else fails, users have the option to enable a scaling option, which essentially locks the entire bar around the active content notch and shrinks the display area to end under the notch.
macOS 12.1 also fixes other bugs with Tap to Click, HDR video playback on YouTube, and MagSafe charging. The distribution of the update should probably start next week.
