The usually extremely well-informed editor Mark Gurman writes in his latest report Bloombergthat Apple is planning to release macOS Ventura alongside iPadOS 16 in the next week, between October 24th and 30th. The new operating system is said to already support the next-generation 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro, which will be based on the new ARM SoCs M2 Pro and M2 Max.
According to Mark Gurman, the new professional laptops will be officially presented in the “near future”, but not together with the new iPad models in October, but probably only in November. The technology giant is said to be doing without a launch event, instead the new MacBook Pro, like the next-generation iPad Pro, is to be announced in a press release. This is mainly due to the fact that apart from the new chips, hardly anything should change in terms of equipment or design.
Apple is also said to be working on a new Mac Mini based on the Apple M2, whether the iMac (approx. 1,250 euros on Amazon) will soon receive an upgrade is unclear. There is an overview of the new features of macOS Ventura on Apple’s website. Highlights include Passkeys, which are set to replace passwords in the future by securing accounts using a Mac’s fingerprint sensor, while Camera Handover allows an iPhone to be used as a high-quality webcam. System Preferences will get a brand new design, while the Mac will finally get a Clock and Weather app too.
