Apple | Bloomberg: The Apple MacBook Pro won’t get Face ID because the technology doesn’t exist | macbook

Apple is said to be working on a Face ID implementation for the Mac, however, according to Mark Gurman, this is intended for an iMac or an external monitor, and not for a MacBook. For users who find it too inconvenient to use the fingerprint sensor to unlock the MacBook Pro, Apple offers the option of automatically unlocking the notebook as long as an Apple Watch linked to the same Apple ID as the MacBook is worn.

Apple is currently developing a smaller Face ID module for the iPhone 14 Pro that will have a double punch hole instead of a notch, so it could only be a matter of time before Face ID is compact enough for a notebook display.
