The MacBook Pro models presented at the end of 2021 impress above all with their very long battery life. How long the batteries really last, we clarify here.

MacBook Pro

Technical data: Battery life of the MacBook Pro 14” and 16” (2021)

The MacBook Pros should deliver the same performance, regardless of whether they work on AC power or battery power. Apple itself states the following values for battery life:

MacBook Pro 14″:

  • Max. 17 hours of movie playback with Apple TV app
  • max. 11 hours of wireless surfing

Actual battery capacity is 69.6 Wh.

MacBook Pro 16″:

  • Max. 21 hours of movie playback with Apple TV app
  • max. 14 hours of wireless surfing

Actual battery capacity is 99.6 Wh.

According to their own statement in the small print, the tests were carried out with prototypes of both MacBook models: “The wireless browsing test measures battery life when surfing wirelessly on 25 popular websites with a screen brightness setting of 8. The Apple TV app movie playback test measures battery life when playing HD 1080p content with a screen brightness setting of 8 .

How long does the MacBook Pro 2021 battery really last?

If Apple’s information is correct, that would mean about 7 or 10 hours more battery life than the predecessor. Although this information offers a rough guideline, it is much more interesting how other test portals rate the battery life in practice. The Engadget website writes for example that MacBook Pro 14″ full 12 hours and 35 minutes endures. At the MacBook Pro 16″ they are 16 hours and 34 minutes. This would roughly correspond to what Apple says it does for wireless surfing. Unfortunately, it is not clear how the Engagdet measurements came about.

Conclusion

Apparently, Apple has again improved the battery life of the MacBook Pro models quite a bit. You are not buying a laptop with a battery, but a large battery with a computer inside. But colleague Kaan doesn’t buy it – for good reason.
