As always, repair specialist iFixit is far more interested in the inner workings of new devices than in their day-to-day use or evaluating the exterior design. Therefore, not much time passed before the recently introduced MacBook Pro (2023) arrived in the workshop and was immediately dismantled into individual parts. It was not just about answering questions about the general structure, but also about assessing repairability and checking Apple’s official repair instructions at the same time. On around 160 pages, this describes what to do in the event of a defect and which components are actually suitable for replacement.

Hardly any visible differences – but one has it all
The video shows the MacBook Pro with a 14″ display. If you remove the case and look inside, there are only minor differences. One relates to the configuration of memory chips, because, as is well known, Apple only uses half as many components in the basic configuration If only two instead of four NAND chips are to be controlled at the same time, this reduces the data throughput accordingly (see ).

iFixit has plenty of praise for the repair guide, which is clearly written and makes it easy to follow the steps. Apple also gives tips on how to best position the MacBook Pro during repairs – and does not skimp on warnings about what can happen if you do not follow the safety instructions.

Unchanged: Soldered a lot and not interchangeable
iFixit is not completely enthusiastic about the repairability, because some essential components such as RAM or the SSDs are still permanently installed. With 5 out of 10 possible points, the device still achieves a better rating than many other Apple notebooks before it. Components such as the battery or display can be replaced relatively quickly in the event of a defect, but you still have a hard time with components of the M2 chip.
