Apple has added the MacBook Pro 2021 to its portfolio of refurbished model series: The notebooks with the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, which were completely relaunched last autumn, are available for the first time directly from the manufacturer “certified refurbished”. These are probably mainly returns, the new models were initially only available with delivery times of several weeks. Both the more compact 14″ model and the large 16″ MacBook are available.
Apple prices higher
The refurbished hardware is “like new,” promises Apple. The refurbishment process includes cleaning, test runs and – if necessary – replacing defective parts with original spare parts. As with new products, Apple grants a one-year hardware guarantee for refurbished Macs. The MacBooks “will be repackaged with all accessories and cables,” the company writes.
Apple promises savings of several hundred euros on refurbished MacBooks it varies depending on the configuration. However, the prices in the Apple stores are far higher than the retail prices. There, the MacBook Pros are sometimes cheaper as new than the refurbished models from Apple, so prospective buyers should check beforehand whether the Apple offer is good. An example: At Apple, the refurbished version of the 14″ MacBook Pro (from €1945) in the basic configuration with M1 Pro, 512 GB SSD and 16 GB RAM costs €2020, for example – a price that is also available in online shops can be purchased as a brand new device.
Long-awaited revision
Apple’s new edition of the professional notebooks had been awaited for a long time: In addition to the significant leap in performance thanks to in-house chips, the new MacBook Pros offer an HDR-capable 120 Hz display and bring back interfaces that were removed from the previous models with HDMI, SD card slot and MagSafe power connection .
