Users of the MacBook Pro 2021 with M1 Pro and Max have recently been annoyed by a bug that can mean an unwanted end of work: the devices suddenly no longer charge on the power supply. The bug can be avoided with a few tricks, but not permanently for those affected. Do you have this bug too?
Apple customers have recently been increasingly annoyed by a bug that appears on certain MacBooks. The Mac suddenly stops charging the battery. The problem can occur after a longer period of battery operation as well as after longer use on the mains.
While the Mac may appear to keep charging, the battery is actually draining. The issue appears to be related to macOS Monterey 12.4.
The MacBook Pro 2021 is probably particularly affected
On various forums, including Apple’s official support community, the problem is reported. macOS Monterey 12.4 has been the current macOS for a few months now, so one wonders how such a serious bug could have gone completely unnoticed by Apple until now.
Affected users are of little help: unplugging and plugging in again does not bring any improvement according to the descriptions. Changing the cable doesn’t help either. Restarting the MacBook helps, but only briefly.
The bug appears to only occur when MacBook Pro 2021 on and here both when charging via MagSafe and USB-C. It is not clear whether Apple will improve this with macOS Monterey 12.5, but it is to be hoped.
