Apple | MacBook Pro: First Mac with M2 chip available for pre-order soon | macbook

At the beginning of June 2022, Apple let the cat out of the bag and presented the first Macs with the brand new M2 chip at the WWDC 2022 developer conference. The new CPU from its own production celebrates its debut in a fresh MacBook Pro and a new edition of the MacBook Air. Apple did not name specific launch dates in the course of the unveiling. This is now changing, at least for the Pro model! Like the iPhone maker on his site officially announced, the 13-inch notebook will be available in stores worldwide on June 24, 2022. If you want to be among the first users to get your hands on the device, place your order earlier.

According to Apple, the pre-order process begins on June 17, 2022 at 2 p.m. German time. From this date, you can order the laptop both via the official Apple website and via the Apple Store app, as well as in the traditional way from authorized Apple retailers in brick-and-mortar retail outlets. The cheapest version of the device costs 1,599 euros. Customers from the education sector already hit it from 1,484 euros. Apple does not give any details about the equipment of the cheapest variant.

Apple promises better performance thanks to the M2 chip

The new MacBook Pro is available with up to 24 gigabytes of RAM, offers ProRes acceleration and, according to Apple, has a battery life of up to 20 hours on one charge. According to official information, it is slightly inferior to the larger 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models in terms of performance. The two devices already available use Apple’s M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. The CPU of the M2 is equipped with eight cores, the graphics unit now even uses ten cores. For processing RAW files in image editing programs, Apple promises around 40 percent more work speed than with the M1.
Thanks to support for Apple’s ProRes video format, the editing of video material in particular should be particularly quick. According to Apple, the MacBook Pro with the M2 chip can play up to eleven 4K streams and up to two streams in 8K resolution in parallel without faltering. Conversion to ProRes format should also be three times faster than before. With the release of the new macOS 13 Ventura in autumn 2022, Apple promises further optimizations that are specially tailored to the M2 chip.
