These rely on the performance variants of the M1 chips: Instead of 4 performance and 4 energy efficiency cores, the M1 Pro and the M1 Max have 8 performance and 2 efficiency cores. The GPU also has more cores: instead of 8, the M1 Max uses up to 32 GPU cores.

When the new models were introduced, Apple kept the 2020 13″ MacBook Pro with the M1 chip and Touch Bar. This was one of the first models with the M1 processor that Apple released in November 2020.

M2 this year
It has already been heard from some rumor sources that Apple will introduce the M2 this year. However, the exact specifications are still unclear here – but it is rumored that Apple is concentrating on efficiency and not on performance with the M2 without a suffix. Therefore, the first model with an M2 chip could be the successor to the current MacBook Air.

Leaker: Also new MacBook Pro for beginners
The accurate leaker @dylandkt now claims to have learned that Apple still wants to position a laptop between the MacBook Air and the current MacBook Pro 14″. According to the information, Apple will replace the MacBook Pro 13″ with a 14″ model in the second half of the year. -Remove screen and M2 chip:

How Apple calls this model, however, is still in the stars: Two MacBook Pro models with an identical screen diagonal could cause confusion among customers. One possibility would be that this device simply listens to the name “MacBook” without an addition. According to @dylandkt, however, the price of the new model should increase slightly.

Last model with Touch Bar
The MacBook Pro 13″ is currently the last model with a Touch Bar in Apple’s current line-up. The new 2021 laptops do without the OLED control bar and bring normal function keys back with them. Apple used the Touch Bar for the first time in the 2016 MacBook Pro – but due to overwhelming customer rejection, Apple deleted the Touch Bar after five years.
