A reader of the Apple blog has the entry in the Canadian government’s product database MacRumors unearthed. Looking at the published data, it is clearly a new Apple notebook with improved WLAN equipment. The product designation for the device is “MacBook Pro” and the radio frequencies published in connection with the registration suggest that Apple is now launching its first notebook with support for the new, faster WLAN standard Wi-Fi 6E .
The first Apple products to support Wi-Fi 6E were the new iPad Pro models unveiled in October. So far, however, the new standard has only been supported by a comparatively small number of current WLAN routers, including the eero Pro 6E and the latest Google routers Nest WiFi Pro.
New Apple notebook with M2 Pro or M2 Max?
If it actually happens that Apple is only presenting a new MacBook Pro today in a press release and without a big stage appearance, you shouldn’t expect any major visible innovations such as a revised housing. However, it remains exciting with a view to the processor equipment of the devices. The MacBook Pro models with 14 and 16-inch screens that are currently still available and will be presented in October 2021 are available with Apple M1 Pro or M1 Max processors. After the small MacBook Pro with a 13-inch screen has been available with an M2 processor since June, it would now be the turn of the two larger models with a corresponding update and the presentation of faster variants of Apple’s M2 processor.
Looking at the probable timing of such an announcement, 5pm seems a good bet. Apple chose this time – 8 a.m. in Cupertino at home – at least in October when announcing the new iPad models. However, we have already seen corresponding Apple product announcements via press release at 2 or 3 p.m.
