The Apple iPhone 14 Plus (approx. 1,149 euros on Amazon) has only been available since October 7th, but after the pre-orders started, the first reports emerged that the device was selling significantly worse than the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Pro or the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Now it has the information Sources in the supply chain have informed that Apple has notified some suppliers to immediately cease production of components for the iPhone 14 Plus.
Production will only resume once Apple has re-evaluated demand for the larger iPhone 14. Depending on the supplier, between 70 and 90 percent fewer iPhone 14 Plus are currently to be produced than originally planned. Despite weak demand, Apple is expected to launch an iPhone 15 Plus next year, following the same approach as with the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini (about 760 euros on Amazon).
Because the more compact and cheaper mini smartphones have also sold miserably, which is why Apple has decided to offer a larger Plus model instead. The disappointing sales figures for the iPhone 14 Plus can be attributed to the comparatively high price, among other things – with a recommended retail price of 1,149 euros, the device is 150 euros more expensive than the regular iPhone 14, but the iPhone 14 Plus offers no advantages apart from the larger display . The iPhone 14 Pro costs another 150 euros more, but is equipped with a 120 Hz ProMotion display, the Dynamic Island, the Apple A16 Bionic and a much more advanced camera system.
