Unfortunately no – although the dimensions of the new iPhone 14 differ only marginally from iPhone 13, in most cases they still require the purchase of a new case. The differences in the 6.1-inch base model are the smallest. The deviations in the housing dimensions are hardly significant.
More importantly, Apple has slightly repositioned the side buttons for power and volume adjustment. Unfortunately, there are some cases whose cut-outs are so narrow that it would affect the operation of an iPhone 14. Overall, however, the chances of a meaningful further use of the existing case are best with the small basic iPhone 14.
Underdressed – iPhone 13 Pro case for iPhone 14 Pro
The 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus celebrates its debut this year. Since there is no direct predecessor here, the question of reusing the old shell does not arise. The situation is different with the new Pro models. Even the 6.1-inch generations differ from each other. The iPhone 14 Pro is just under 0.8mm longer and 0.2mm thicker. Whether this poses a problem for using an old case certainly depends on the type and material. The slightly shifted arrangement of the side buttons, on the other hand, degrades some cases to obsolete models.
The 6.7-inch Max models also differ slightly in their dimensions. With almost the same height, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is 0.5 mm narrower and 0.2 mm thicker than its predecessor. In addition, there is the problem of the repositioned side buttons.
Enlarged optics require more space
With the obligatory improved camera quality this year comes a thicker and larger optics module. All Pro models of the latest generation are affected. The cut-out on the back of the iPhone case can also become a problem.
Conclusion: When switching to the latest iPhone generation, a tailor-made case should be planned directly. A lack of a perfect fit could otherwise spoil the joy of the new device. We have the best cases for the iPhone 14 in a separate article summarized.
