Apple’s emergency SOS satellite security service is available today for customers in Germany, France, the UK and Ireland. The technology, available on all iPhone 14 models, allows users to send messages to emergency services even outside of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage.
With iOS 16.2, users dialing a local emergency number will be automatically redirected to the European emergency number 112 if the call fails due to a lack of cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity. So you can use emergency call SOS via satellite even if you don’t dial 112.
Additionally, users who want to update friends and family about their whereabouts while off-line can now open the Find My app and share their location via satellite. The question of what the service will cost later is likely to be exciting, as the announcement states “The service is included free of charge for two years from the time a new iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max is activated. “

After answering the questions, the interface will show where to point the iPhone to connect and send the first message. This message contains the answers to the questions, the location including the elevation, the iPhone battery status and the emergency pass if it is activated. Responses and follow-up messages are relayed directly via satellite to dispatchers who accept text messages, or to operators staffed by Apple-trained specialists who can call for help on the owner’s behalf.
