Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman speculates in his latest newsletter “Power On” about all the innovations that Apple still has to bring in the second half of 2022 and early 2023. Among them, of course, is the iPhone 14, which we expect in September 2022. According to Gurman, the iOS 16 released three weeks ago also indicates a hardware feature. The revised lock screen with customization options and new widgets in the Apple Watch style should therefore fit perfectly with an always-on display, but only for the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro.
The widgets on the lock screen should display information such as the weather, calendar, Apple Watch activity indicators, and other information on the display with less brightness and at a slower screen rate. When locked, sensitive information is hidden or displayed anonymously, as is the case with widgets on the Apple Watch or notifications on iPhones with Face ID.
An always-on display was rumored before the iPhone 13 was released. Leaker Max Weinbach has claimed last year’s Pro models will get the feature, because they also get screens with the changeable refresh rate of 120 Hz. The rumor of 120 Hz screens was true, we still have to wait for always-on. Mark Gurman also got the always-on display for iPhone 13 Pro last year forecast. This would not be a real challenge for Apple, since the Apple Watch has been series 5 introduced exactly this function. (macworld)
