The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro were released in autumn 2022, each in a regular size and a larger one – Plus and Max. The most striking thing about the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) was the replacement of the “Notch”, which was often perceived as ugly, with the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro, the iPhone 14 hasn’t changed much from its predecessor except for the sizes.
Of course, the revision of a product range always brings with it new peak values, just to encourage users to pull out their credit cards as quickly as possible and switch to the latest devices. In this case, the smallest device has fallen victim, because there is no longer a “mini” in the 14 series. But – “think big” – two models with 6.7 inches.
iPhone 14
That iPhone 14 6.1 inch Compared to the direct predecessor, the screen diagonal has quite a few innovations to offer, such as autofocus on the front camera, satellite connection and accident detection. The ultra-wide angle of the rear camera has remained unchanged, and other value changes such as the video playback time of 20 instead of 19 hours compared to the iPhone 13 are marginal. Nothing has changed with the resolution of 2532 x 1170 pixels at 460 ppi as in the iPhone 13 and, for example, the brightness values. The size of the case is:
- Height: 146.7mm
- Width: 71.5mm
- Depth: 7.8mm
This is pretty much the same as the iPhone 13, and the weight at 172 grams has hardly decreased noticeably. With the “Photonic Engine”, however, software for intelligent image improvement in poor lighting has been integrated as a real innovation. If these are reasons enough for you to buy here rather than the older iPhone 13, Apple pays 999 euros (128 GB, maximum 512 GB possible), which means a whopping 100 euros list price more than the direct predecessor. As always, street prices or refurbished devices are often significantly lower.
iPhone 14 Pro
That iPhone 14 Pro also with 6.1 inches actually set new standards, which also made us sit up and take notice as the owner of an iPhone 13 Pro. Like others, we were impressed by the “Dynamic Island” as a real innovation compared to the notch. There is also an always-on display for the first time. An A16 Bionic chip enables higher speed compared to its predecessors, as our test shows. Also on board is an optical triple zoom.
Like the iPhone 13 Pro, macro photos are also possible, and support for Apple ProRAW is also included. The main camera now supports a whopping 48 MP, but this only comes into its own in RAW format, otherwise the electronics combine four pixels into one. The display also has other new features besides the Dynamic Island, namely 1,600 nits of peak brightness in HDR and 2,000 nits of peak brightness outdoors.
Now to the dimensions of the case:
- Height: 147.5mm
- Width: 71.5mm
- Depth: 7.85mm
Here you can see that the iPhone 14 Pro is slightly larger than the iPhone 14, despite having the same screen diagonal, and also weighs more, namely 206 grams. This is due to the more comprehensive technology under the hood. If you want to buy this iPhone – you can get it more easily now – Apple charges an impressive 1300 euros for 128 GB. Due to the still high demand, you can’t get it much cheaper online without a contract or without the stamp “generalüberholt/refurbed”. But research is always worthwhile. And time helps with the discount too… the maximum storage space on this model is 1TB.
iPhone 14Plus
The “mini” has disappeared from the range of current iPhones, in favor of a new model at the other end of the scale, namely iPhone 14 Plus with a 6.7-inch display, but without the Pro features. Intended for users who like to have a lot of space on their display without paying the high price for full technical equipment. Admittedly, this device probably didn’t go so wellbecause it is precisely the Pro features that make the new iPhone 14 so attractive to most.
In principle, the data also correspond to the regular iPhone 14, i.e. without additional functions such as Dynamic Island, Always-On Display and others. Accordingly, the Plus only has the A15 Bionic chip and offers storage space up to a maximum of 512 GB. The battery is according to the data collected by Macrumors with 4,325 mAh compared to the iPhone 14 with 3,279 mAh and also the iPhone 14 Pro (3,200 mAh) and should therefore also enable up to 28 hours of video playback (streamed: 20 hours).
The 6.7 inches are surrounded by a case size of:
- Height: 160.8mm
- Width: 78.1mm
- Depth: 7.80mm
The weight is 203 grams, which is slightly below that of the iPhone 14 Pro – less technology inside weighs less despite the larger display. In terms of price, Apple’s Plus is right between the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Pro: 1149 euros for 128 GB.
iPhone 14 Pro Max
Now who really everything wants to have – size and functions – it works to the iPhone 14 Pro Max. This has everything to offer like the iPhone 14 Pro, plus the larger screen and a stronger battery (like the Plus), which should also allow 28 hours of video playback. However, these are also the main differences. Of course, unlike the Plus, it has the A16 Bionic chip and many other advantages, such as the camera or the Dynamic Island. And the brightness values are similar to the iPhone 14 Pro with peak values of 2,000 nits brightness outdoors.
The case dimensions of the iPhone 14 Pro Max:
- Height: 160.7mm
- Width: 77.6mm
- Depth: 7.85mm
This corresponds to the iPhone 14 Plus with minor deviations. Only the weight adds a bit more: at 240 grams, the Pro Max is a certain heavyweight. This also applies to the price from 128 GB: Apple wants 1449 euros for it! If you want a bit more, you can also purchase the model with one TB of storage equipment – you then pay almost 2100 euros for that. At least with Apple, as always, the street prices or those for outdated devices are sometimes significantly lower. But after all, you don’t treat yourself to anything else…
