Since the iPhone 12 and the iPhone SE (2022), not only Android smartphones have mastered 5G: the data turbo ensures high speed and, ideally, particularly low latencies. For this, of course, the mobile phone provider must have a correspondingly well-developed network available, but the modem built into the smartphone also decides on the data throughput. Apple donated the Snapdragon X65 from Qualcomm to all offshoots of the current series. Although Qualcomm has now launched the even faster Snapdragon X70 with an integrated AI processor, the component is definitely an improvement compared to the X60 built into the iPhone 13:

SpeedSmart took 5G speed measurements for the iPhone 14 Pro and its predecessors. This happened with two large US network operators, so that the data throughput is also partly due to mmWave – a technology that is not available in this country. However, the new modem also promises speed gains for sub-6 GHz frequencies. The iPhone 14 Pro achieves up to 38 percent higher download speeds. The plus in the upload is less spectacular, although improvements can also be seen in this discipline with both mobile phone providers. Furthermore, SpeedSmart determined a lower latency with the new model.

Incidentally, the Snapdragon X65 also supports the frequency band used by Globalstar – and thus allows the iPhone to be connected to satellites in emergency situations (see here).

No return to iOS 15.6.1 possible
A month ago, Apple released iOS 15.6.1, closing already actively exploited vulnerabilities in the system. Now Cupertino stops signing this version: users are no longer able to downgrade to iOS 15.6.1 for their iPhone. Of course, the security patches are also included in the current versions iOS 16 and 16.0.1. However, anyone who struggles with bugs and other problems of the recently released major release can still go back to the previous version: Apple made iOS 15.7 available for download at the same time as iOS 16. It is uncertain how long this version will be available as an alternative.
