Apple is said to be giving the next-generation iPhone more RAM. According to a DigiTimes report, all iPhone 14 models will come with 6GB of RAM. This would be keeping the memory configuration on the Pro models, but adding 2 gigabytes each to the standard iPhone 14 models and the new iPhone 14 Max, which is to be released instead of a mini variant.
The DigiTimes report refers to sources in the supply industry. Apple gets its memory chips from the manufacturers Samsung, SK Hynix and Micro Technology. Higher sales are expected there as a result of the storage expansion. The analyst Ming-Chi Kuo assumed something similar in the spring.
The Pro models retain the same RAM equipment that was introduced with the 13 generation, but with the use of LPDDR5 it is said to have been significantly upgraded. Compared to LPDDR4X, which is to be used in the consumer models, LPDDR5 has a memory clock that is almost twice as high and the transfer rates are also significantly higher. In addition, LPDDR5 should bring a higher energy efficiency.
Higher demand expected
In another report by DigiTimes it says, however, that Apple has increased its orders for components. The Californian group is now expecting higher sales of the iPhone 14, after repeated reports in recent weeks that Apple is shifting down a gear due to the signs of global economic development. According to the report, strong sales of the 13 generation give hope. These are selling a third better than in the same period.
The summer months are usually not the strongest sales months for Apple, as many wait and see what new things will be presented in September. However, reports from the gray market in China suggested that greater demand for the iPhone 14 could be expected.
