Iphone 14 | iPhone 14: Apple wants to avoid “Made in Taiwan” imprint | apple iphone

Since the speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, paid a visit to the western-oriented island state of Taiwan in early August 2022, the autocratically governed People’s Republic of China has been raging. The communist regime under President Xi Jinping claims Taiwan as part of China and tries to nip any ambitions of Taiwan towards independence in the bud. In response to the high-ranking guest from the United States, China has been using military threats in recent days. The already tense diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic and the United States of America have hit rock bottom. That worries Apple too.

The US group has numerous components for its hardware and especially for the iPhone manufactured in Taiwan. Now the company fears problems with Chinese customs inspections. Concerned that China could hold back goods from chicanes and thus cause supply bottlenecks, Apple is asking its Taiwanese suppliers not to label their components “Made in Taiwan”. That reports spiegel.de citing an article in the Japanese business newspaper Nikkei. Accordingly, Apple would like manufacturers to declare all shipments going from Taiwan to mainland China as “Made in Chinese Taipei”.

Freedom rights activists criticize Apple’s attitude

In fact, it has been mandatory for years to mark products imported from Taiwan as made in China, but this practice has not yet been implemented. The fact that Apple is now insisting on this in order to secure the goodwill of the Chinese government does not go down well with freedom rights activists. According to the report, the GreatFire freedom initiative has severely criticized Apple’s obsequious attitude. Instead of defying the Chinese leadership’s attempts at suppression, the company would repeatedly cave in to their repression in order to secure itself economically. In the past, for example, he removed the Taiwan flag from the Chinese emoji keyboard to avoid trouble.

Apple has yet to comment on the allegations. The group is under a lot of pressure. The global shortage of components has been causing problems for the company for a long time. Further delivery bottlenecks could have massive consequences, especially in view of the imminent unveiling of the iPhone 14.
