iPhone 14 without charging adapter? This penalty threatens Apple

The smartphone giant introduced this change with the launch of the iPhone 11 and has maintained it on all models since then. According to Apple, this would save production costs and prevent unnecessary electronic waste. Apple customers already have charging adapters at home from previous models and other electronic devices. If you really need a new adapter, you can purchase it separately in the shop.

And this is not the first time that bothers the Brazilian authorities. At the beginning of the year, the Brazilian civil court ruled that Apple would force a so-called tie-in deal by eliminating the power supply unit. This means that when customers buy an iPhone, they are also forced to purchase a charging adapter. Linked transactions are prohibited in Brazil. By the way: In Germany, these are generally allowed. However, manufacturers can be sued for unfair competition if the additional business was not sufficiently marked in advance.

If Apple violates this sales freeze, the company faces severe penalties. The authorities are imposing a fine of twelve million real per day if it can be determined that the ban has been circumvented. Converted, that would be almost 2.3 million euros for Apple each time. Should the sale be discontinued or should Apple add charging adapters to its iPhones, no penalties would be expected.

Special regulation for iPhone 14 in Brazil?

So if Apple sticks to the previous line, that will happen iPhone 14 not on retail shelves in Brazil. However, it would be conceivable that the manufacturer would make an exception for Brazil. Something similar has already happened in France. A special regulation has existed here since the iPhone 12: The law stipulated that every smartphone has to come with headphones. Apple had to conform in order to remain present in the market.
