Previous rumors assumed that Apple would equip the iPhone14 and iPhone 14 Max with the processor of the predecessors. Industry experts now want to know that Apple could use an A16 chip after all. There is a catch, however.
According to previous rumors, the newly developed A16 processor should only power the Pro models of the upcoming iPhone generation. Apple may change its strategy – at least as far as marketing is concerned. According to PhoneArena colleagues, the iPhone 13 A15 chip could get a new name, so the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will also be equipped with an A16 processor.

iPhone 14 Pro models with A16 Pro chip?
Apple is a marketing pro. So it would be quite understandable if the tech giant stayed true to its previous line when naming it. But you would also have to deliver the iPhones coming in 2022 (here with a contract) with processors of the same name. Because until now almost all iPhone models in a series had the same processor – at least in name. To keep that from changing, Apple could rename the A15 Bionic chip.
Apparently, the A15 chip of the iPhone 13 series should get a slight revision and provide performance as the A16 in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max. The new processor, which is said to be in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, will be called the A16 Pro. In this way, Apple would ship all iPhones of the next generation with the same name and “new” processors. The processor of the Pro models would only get the addition “Pro”.
On closer inspection, however, they are often not as uniform as the name of the chips suggests. There are differences even with the iPhones of the current generation. Namely in the GPU, the graphics unit of the chip. The A15 chip in the iPhone 13 (here with contract) and iPhone 13 mini has a GPU with four cores. In contrast, the graphics unit of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max has five cores. A few small revisions to the chipset of the predecessor of the Apple Watch Series 7 have also prompted Apple to market the processor under a new name.

Nevertheless, a change of strategy seems to be in the offing at Apple. At least on a technical level. However, the company could disguise this somewhat with such clever marketing. All this does not have to mean that Apple will not present any improvements to the predecessor with the iPhone 14.
