Apple/Business Insider

The Apple iPhone 14 will be released on September 16, 2022. The new generation includes four different models: the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Plus, the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The new cell phones cost between EUR 999.00 and EUR 1449.00 (each with 128 gigabytes of memory).

Upgrading to the iPhone 14 generation is more worthwhile for Pro customers, as many of the new features are only available on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The iPhone 14 Plus, on the other hand, is an option for people who prefer big phones but don’t want to pay the more expensive Pro prices.

On September 7, 2022, Apple announced the new iPhone 14. The new smartphone generation will be released on September 16, 2022 and again includes four models. In contrast to the predecessor, however, there is no iPhone Mini. Instead, Apple is releasing a larger standard iPhone. So the new phones are about that iPhone 14the iPhone 14Plusthe iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The cheapest iPhone 14 starts at 999.00 euros on while the most expensive at 1449.00 euros starts (each with 128 gigabytes of memory). Is the new iPhone 14 worth it?

But is it really worth buying the new iPhone? We looked at the most important innovations and functions of the 14 generation and classified them, whether they justify the upgrade to a new phone:

1. The A16 Bionic chip offers up to 28 percent better performance

One reason why the upgrade to the iPhone 14 generation is worthwhile is the built-in A16 bionic chip. According to initial tests, this processor should have a up to 28 percent better performance Offer. This makes the iPhone 14 even faster than its predecessor, which is “only” equipped with the (also very fast) A15 Bionic chip. However, the A16 Bionic Chip is plugged in only in the two Pro versions of the iPhone 14. The standard iPhone and the Plus version both still have the A15 like the 13 generation. So if you value even better performance, you have to buy either the iPhone 14 Pro or the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

So is it worth upgrading to the iPhone 14?

If you were going to buy one of the Pro models anyway, the A16 Bionic chip is definitely a reason to switch to the iPhone 14.

2. The iPhone 14’s camera is up to three times better

According to Apple, the Camera performance of all iPhone 14 models two to three times as good as with the iPhone 13. The so-called takes care of that Photonic engine, which not only enables brighter colors but also more detail in dark areas. Even with the camera, the really big upgrades are limited again only on the Pro models. So the two iPhone 14 Pros have a 48 megapixels camera system, while the 13s only offer 12 megapixels (like the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus). As a result, significantly better photos can be taken with the new mobile phones, which are still sharp even with zoom or severe cropping.

So is it worth upgrading to the iPhone 14?

Although the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus also have better camera performance thanks to the Photonic Engine, the switch is only worthwhile for Pro customers.

3. Dynamic Island, the new notch for the iPhone 14

Apple fans hate the notch on the iPhone. The company has finally responded to this with the iPhone 14. The notch was replaced with the so-called Dynamic Island, a pill-shaped recess on the display. In contrast to the old notch, which only offers space for the Face ID sensor and the front camera, this Dynamic Island has additional functions. For example, it shows notifications, timers, album art, and directions. The biggest advantage: With the Dynamic Island, many functions of the iPhone can be operated without having to open a new app. The big drawback: This function also exists only on the two iPhone 14 Pros. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus still have the hated notch.

So is it worth upgrading to the iPhone 14?

The Dynamic Island is a long-awaited innovation for the iPhone that will significantly sweeten the transition to the new generation.

4. The first iPhone with an always-on display

One would think that Apple only wants to sell Pro iPhones, because the new one too Always-on display is only available in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The always-on display, which constantly shows basic information such as the time and date, is a long-overdue update for the iPhone. Too bad that the other two iPhones are not equipped with this function.

So is it worth upgrading to the iPhone 14?

The always-on display is a handy new feature that can save a lot of time in everyday life because the iPhone doesn’t have to be woken up to check the time all the time. However, we think that an always-on display shouldn’t be a pro feature, it should be standard.

5. Significantly better battery life

All four iPhone 14 models have better battery life than their predecessors. The iPhone 14 Plus and the iPhone 14 Pro Max in particular impress with their long-lasting batteries. This is how the plus makes it up to 26 hourswhile the Pro Max is even fabulous 29 hours creates (each for video playback; slightly less for videos streamed online and significantly more for audio playback).

So is it worth upgrading to the iPhone 14?

The improved battery life is one of the main reasons to buy an iPhone 14!

6. The iPhone 14 offers additional size options

So far, the larger screens have only been available for Pro iPhones. That changed with the iPhone 14. The iPhone 14 Plus comes with the same 6.7-inch screen as the iPhone 14 Pro Max (however, pro features such as the always-on display are missing). This means that there is finally a more affordable option for customers who prefer a large cell phone.

So is it worth upgrading to the iPhone 14?

The additional size options for the iPhone 14 at lower prices are a clear plus point for the new generation.

Conclusion: Is it worth buying the iPhone 14?

Like all iPhones, the iPhone 14 is an excellent phone and we can’t think of anything against buying it. However, the upgrade is more worthwhile for Pro customers, which will be offered some exciting new features with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Since these innovations are missing in the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus, the purchase of the standard models is only worthwhile for people who are currently not using an iPhone or an older one. On the other hand, if you already own an iPhone 13 (no matter what version), you can skip the iPhone 14 and instead wait for the iPhone 15, which may then take over some of the Pro functions for the standard models. The iPhone 14 Plus is an exception to our recommendation. Anyone who prefers large cell phones but can do without Pro functions and above all Pro prices has a real option with the Plus model.
