Some of the 5G modems built into the current iPhones (here with a contract) are manufactured by Samsung. With the iPhone 14, however, Apple wants to rely on TSMC as a supplier. This should not only be accompanied by a change of supplier, but also improved chip technology, which, among other things, should ensure that the battery in the iPhone 14 lasts significantly longer than that in the iPhone 13 models.

The new chip can do that better

The TSMC-5G chip is to be manufactured using the so-called 6-nanometer process and will therefore take up less space on the mainboard. At the same time, the 5G modem should work more efficiently and reduce the power consumption of the iPhone 14 when the 5G connection is active. In addition, the new modem should be equipped with Wi-Fi 6E and thus support higher bandwidth and lower latency, provided the corresponding WLAN router also supports Wi-Fi 6E.

Rumors so far claim that the 5G chip in the iPhone 14 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon X65. From 2023, i.e. with the launch of the iPhone 15, Apple should only rely on its own 5G modems.

Leakers and industry experts also assume that Apple will launch four models (iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max).
