The iPhone 14 has been unveiled! Under the motto “Far out”, Tim Cook presented the new iPhone generation live today from the Steve Job Theater in Cupertino. The Apple keynote lasted a good 90 minutes, and in addition to the new smartphone models, the focus was primarily on the new Apple Watch Series 8 (including Apple Watch Ultra) and the long-awaited Apple Airpods Pro 2. GQ was live on site and was allowed to test the devices in a first hands-on session. Conclusion: In addition to the best camera ever in an iPhone and exciting new security functions, one new feature of the iPhone 14 Pro was particularly convincing. “Dynamic Island” gives users completely new ways of interacting with their own smartphone.
Anyone who is flirting with a new device has to choose between four models this year. There is a choice of two basic and two Pro versions, each with 6.1 and 6.7 inch screens. The iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Plus (yes, as rumors have suggested, a new name has been unveiled here), the iPhone 14 Pro, as well as the iPhone 14 Pro Max. iPhone 14: Improved camera and new safety features
The iPhone 14 is available in the colors “Starlight”, “Midnight”, “Blue”, “Purple” and “ProductRed” and does not differ much from its predecessors in terms of design. At least at first glance. However, the aluminum body and the Ceramic Shield front (tougher than any other smartphone glass!) make the iPhone stronger than ever. The 12-megapixel camera on the back and the improved front camera ensure even better photo and video recordings – even in poor lighting conditions. The iPhone 14’s 12 MP TrueDepth camera integrates autofocus with the front camera for the first time in Apple history. The “Action Mode” ensures that video recordings deliver an even more stable result even when moving, even without a gimbal! With its larger display, the iPhone 14 Plus is perfect for streaming movies or gaming.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro: New “Dynamic Island” display element enables interactive user experience
The iPhone 14 Pro is available in Space Black, Silver, Gold, and Deep Purple colors. The biggest difference to the classic iPhone 14: The screen design has changed. Where the front camera and sensors used to be housed, you can now find the adaptive and flexibly adaptable “Dynamic Island”. “Dynamic Island” allows important notifications, notifications and activities to be displayed in real time. Apple wants to “make the boundaries between hardware and software disappear”. Due to this innovation, the TrueDepth camera has also been redesigned, which now takes up less space on the display. Without restricting the screen content, the “Dynamic Island” stays continuously active and allows faster access to the most important controls with a simple tap and hold. Running background activities, music, maps or the timer remain visible, even if you are in another app. (Read about this: The iPhone 14 should finally get this mega feature)
Camera update: improved front camera meets 48 megapixel sensor
Investments have also been made in the camera for the iPhone 14 Pro models. Specifically, this means: A significant improvement in the front camera with autofocus (for even better selfies!) and an addition of a 48-megapixel main camera (including a 65% larger sensor), which, according to experts, marks a new era in iPhone photography will initiate. Those who regularly struggle with poor lighting conditions should also get their money’s worth with the iPhone 14 Pro. “Photonic Engine” enables a huge leap in quality: photos show exceptional detail, subtle textures, better colors and more information. For the very first time, the Pro models offer a 48 megapixel main camera, which uses the quad sensor to record 4 times more image information.
The A16 Bionic chip (the fastest Apple chip to date!), which is built into the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, enables exciting new features and improved battery life (all day long!). Also exciting: The display of the iPhone 14 Pro achieves a whole new level of brightness – and thanks to 2,000 nits it can be twice as bright as the iPhone 13 Pro. In terms of features, the always-on display is moving in with the Pro model, as hoped. This means that certain information such as the time, date and incoming messages always remain active on the energy-efficient screen. iOS 16 makes it possible to customize the lock screen like never before. Notifications no longer arrive at the top but at the bottom and can be hidden with a quick swipe. The live activity display can be used to quickly and clearly check the arrival of the Uber driver or the score of an ongoing sporting event. (Do you already know? After Apple, this tech giant also wants to sell smartphones without chargers and USB cables)
