iPhone 14 Max: Cheaper large model instead of iPhone 14 Mini

A photo of metal castings is said to reveal details about the upcoming iPhone 14 models. The pieces, probably intended as templates for case manufacturers, not only show the expected iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, but also an iPhone 14 Max, i.e. a cheaper model with a large display.

At 6.7 inches, the display of the iPhone 14 Max should be just as large as the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Like the iPhone 14, however, it only uses a dual instead of a triple camera on the back. The photo of the four metal castings has appeared on the Chinese microblogging service Weibo, but its authenticity is difficult to assess. Corresponding templates for smartphone cases have already made it possible to draw conclusions about the shape of future iPhone models in recent years.

No iPhone 14 mini

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro therefore again have a display with a 6.1-inch diagonal. However, an iPhone 14 Mini with a 5.4-inch display like the iPhone 13 mini is not included. There had already been rumors that Apple would discontinue the mini version of the iPhone, which could be supported by the picture.

Larger camera lenses on the Pro models

The picture also reveals that the lenses of the triple camera on the two Pro models are even larger than on the iPhone 13 Pro (Max) and larger than on the two non-Pro models of the iPhone 14. This matches the rumours , according to which the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) should get a 48-megapixel camera instead of a 12-megapixel camera for the first time.

So far, the non-pro variant offers a slower GPU, less RAM and an OLED display with 60 Hz instead of 120 Hz in addition to the dual camera compared to the pro models.

Face ID should become a pill

News about the rumors that at least the Pro models rely on a smaller Face ID in the form of a pill in the display instead of a notch on the edge of the display are not disclosed. With the iPhone of the 2023 model year, Face ID will then move under the OLED display.
