This year, Apple once again has four new iPhones in its portfolio. The new iPhone 14 Plus joins the other models as a larger variant of the standard 6.1-inch iPhone 14. There is no longer a smaller iPhone Mini.
Of course, the question arises as to whether there are other reasons to buy the Plus, apart from the size, or whether you shouldn’t grab the iPhone 14 Pro Max right away? -at least if you don’t shy away from the high costs.

This is praised on the iPhone 14 Plus
The battery life of the iPhone 14 Plus is very good. According to the data sheet, the battery lasts for
- 26 hours of video playback
- 20 hours video stream
- and 100 hours of audio playback.
Apple has not exaggerated with the information, because loud Allison Johnson from The Verge it even lasted three days on a single charge. The Wall Street Journal’s Joana Stern achieved exactly the specified 20 hours in a video stream test. That’s just an hour less than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The iPhone 14 Plus does what it says on the tin here.
The higher screen resolution compared to the smaller iPhone 14 is also commendable. The 14 Plus has a resolution of 2778 x 1284 at 458ppi versus the 460ppi of the iPhone 14. This means the larger screen is pretty much as sharp as that of the smaller iPhone 14, so content on the display is easy to read and user friendly benefit overall from the larger screen area.
Although the iPhone 14 Plus is a lot larger than the iPhone 14, it is only 31 grams heavier at 203 grams and is therefore relatively light.
Techradar’s Lance Ulanoff especially praises the Better performance of the cameras in bad light. This is probably mainly due to the larger image sensor and the new photonic engine. To put it simply, multiple images are taken before the shutter button is pressed and the image information collected is used to create sharper, low-noise images.
This is criticized on the iPhone 14 Plus
The long battery life does not come without compromises. The iPhone 14 Plus has a display that only runs at 60 Hertz. Higher refresh rates are reserved for the Pro models. Unfortunately, the 60 Hertz are also fixed and not adaptive.
The display is nice and bright and sharp, but according to TheVerge’s Allison Johnson, it still doesn’t quite match the quality of the Pro Max. In general, testers and reviewers agree that at least a 90 Hertz display should have been in there – especially at a price of 1149 euros and up.
A small point of criticism is that the non-Pro models still use the older A15 Bionic chip of the iPhone 13 Pro. However, the performance is by no means bad and still very much in line with modern standards.
Speaking of the iPhone 13: Here you can get the top smartphone cheaply:
Conclusion: iPhone 14 only bigger
Ultimately, the iPhone 14 Plus is what it promises – a larger iPhone 14. If you don’t mind the refresh rate of 60 Hertz, Apple’s Plus model is a solid, large smartphone without having to buy the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro Max right away . The great battery life is a very pleasant bonus.
