If you want to give your loved ones an iPhone for Christmas at the last minute, you have to expect longer delivery times. Requested mobile phone providers and online retailers from Switzerland confirm that bottlenecks can occur. Especially the strict ones Corona measures at Chinese factory sites cause production losses.
In Switzerland, this mainly affects the latest iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models, which the manufacturer Apple launched in mid-September. Anyone currently ordering such a device must reckon with a delivery time of two to three weeks. The cheapest version of the iPhone 14 Pro is available from us from just under 1200 francs.
Online retailers such as the Coop subsidiaries Interdiscount and Microspot already point out on their websites that the delivery date is “unknown”. The largest platform Digitec Galaxus states the waiting times at the end of December.
Salt issues vouchers
Retailers and mobile operators are reacting differently to the situation. “Anyone who wants to give away an iPhone 14 Pro for Christmas can still do so in the form of a voucher,” says Viola Lebel, spokeswoman for Salt.
“We are in regular contact with our customers and keep them informed about the status of their orders,” says Martina Högger, spokeswoman for Mobilezone.
Migros subsidiary Digitec Galaxus has reduced its dependencies by sourcing its iPhones from multiple suppliers. “So we are usually able to deliver even if our main suppliers don’t have any goods,” says company spokeswoman Norina Brun. “We also order our products very early on, which means we can cushion potential bottlenecks.”
The US tech giant admitted in early November that the Production at the Zhengzhou site is restricted. Apple Switzerland left questions about the situation in this country unanswered and referred to the official statement from the headquarters in California. Accordingly, Apple expects “lower delivery volumes of iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max than forecast”.
As it became known, workers stayed away from their jobs in Zhengzhou because the Chinese authorities had partially closed the factory due to Covid cases. There were also protests because of rumors that the employment contracts had been changed unilaterally. Wage subsidies are said to have been abolished.

The Taiwanese supplier Foxconn, which has the iPhones manufactured for Apple in China, denied these speculations. As the Wall Street Journal reported at the weekend, Apple is now working flat out to increase production outside of China.
One thing is certain: Switzerland is an iPhone country, as shown by a representative survey by comparison portal moneyland.ch from the summer of 2021. Almost half of consumers use an Apple smartphone. The South Korean manufacturer Samsung and the Chinese company Huawei follow on the podium.
