After many weeks of supply difficulties, Apple has finally managed to normalize the supply of the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Like a look in the Apple online store shows, most models are now available immediately or only with a short delivery time. This also applies to top equipment and this year’s special color dark purple. Many Apple retail stores in Germany also seem to have stock, with a few exceptions.
Christmas business collapsed
Apple had massive problems in the Christmas business in delivering the Pro models, which were particularly popular this year. This had been known since November, when the group even issued a corresponding public statement. One had to admit that the only factory that builds the two devices, the Foxconn plant in Zhengzhou, is producing at a “significantly reduced capacity”. This then continued for weeks. The reason was the “Zero COVID” measures of the Chinese Communist Party, which were still strictly enforced at the time. These also led to strong employee departures and protest actions in front of the factory.
The group tried to boost production with various measures, even ex-soldiers were asked to Zhengzhou. In the meantime, the KP has significantly scaled back the corona measures, and the capacity of the factory with up to 300,000 employees is said to have increased sharply again. Are customers still interested?
At this point, however, the question arises as to whether the supply will still meet a corresponding demand. Initially, analysts estimated that the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max were just deferred, but frustrated Christmas shoppers may have given up their wish. Typically, the fourth quarter is always Apple’s best time of the year. Accordingly, Wall Street is excited about the early February next quarterly figures to be reported.
Apple had strongly differentiated its iPhone portfolio this year. While the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are based on the iPhone 13, only the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max deliver all the major innovations, including the Dynamic Island; faster SoCs and better camera technology. Accordingly, the demand was directed towards the devices costing up to 2100 euros. That’s exactly what fell on Apple’s feet because only one factory built these iPhones. That shouldn’t happen to the group in the future – it wants to integrate other manufacturers and even other regions of the world earlier.
