Iphone 14 | iPhone 14 Pro: Camera hump probably even thicker | apple iphone

Apple is probably preparing the biggest camera innovation in recent years. This entails some changes to the case.

When the first rumors about the iPhone 14 began to appear at the end of last year, it was said that Apple would make its smartphone thicker so that the camera would be flush with the housing again. According to the latest leaked schematics, that’s not the case – quite the opposite.

Max Weinbach on Twitter
announced that the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max will have the largest camera bump ever, protruding 4.17mm from the back of the case and for an overall depth of 12.02mm. For comparison, the iPhone 13 Pro’s camera hump has an overall depth of 11.25mm. The camera arrangement appears to be the same, with wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle and telephoto.

There’s a reason for the bigger lead, though: the cameras themselves are likely to get a bigger update. Apple is rumored to be putting a 48-megapixel rear camera in the iPhone 14 Pro, which is a big boost over the 12-MP camera that Apple has been adding since the iPhone 6S (2015). Along with the usual readjustments to the image chip and sensor, and a possible improvement in telephoto capabilities, the iPhone 14 Pro can represent one of the biggest leaps in terms of cameras.

The rest of the dimensions are very similar to those of the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, according to the document:

iPhone 13 Pro: 146.7 × 71.5 × 7.65mm (with 11.25mm camera)

iPhone 14 Pro: 147.46 × 71.45 × 7.85mm (with camera 12.02mm)

iPhone 13 Pro Max: 160.8 × 78.1 × 7.65mm (with camera 11.25mm)

iPhone 14 Pro Max: 160.7 × 77.58 × 7.85mm (with camera 12.02mm)

The iPhone 13 Pro’s camera hump is already very large, so even an extra 1.2mm will be noticeable. The blueprints do not contain any information about the weight of the new smartphones, they will probably exceed the current 204 grams (iPhone 13 Pro) and 240 grams (iPhone 13 Pro Max). The sketches shared by Weinbach also clearly show the iPhone 14 Pro’s new screen design with a circle-and-oval cutout for the front camera and Truedepth components.
