Iphone 14 | iPhone 14 Pro: Secret option creates reduced always-on display | apple iphone

Unlike various Android phones, the always-on display is iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max really just a darker view of the lockscreen. However, this annoys many users because they perceive it as distracting. However, a closer look at the settings helps and reduces the display to the essentials.

Focus function helps iPhone 14 Pro to have a better always-on display

Among the angry voices about the always-on display is none other than Apple insider Mark Gurman, who addresses exactly this vulnerability in a short test report on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. “I keep looking at my phone and I think I’m getting a call or an incoming notification because the screen is on,” he explained in his Power On newsletter.

However, there is an option hidden in the settings of the iPhone 14 Pro that makes a reduced always-on display possible. To do this, you have to do the following:

  1. Go to your iPhone’s settings.
  2. Navigate to Focus.
  3. You will also find the option under the options “Dim lock screen”.
  4. Activate him.

You should now see a reduced always-on display without a background image and the like, like 9to5Mac explained. You only see widgets, the time and more in a pleasant black and white, so that the distraction is a thing of the past.

However, there are several catches

While this may seem like a reason to celebrate at first, there are a few downsides as well. With the focus mode, you are always alerted in the lower third of the screen on the lock screen that the focus is activated.

But even if you can just hide that in your mind, your activated lock screen is also affected by the focus. Instead of a possibly well-chosen colorful image, the colors are also dimmed here and the background is deliberately blurred.

If you want to set a different focus, such as “Do Not Disturb” or “Work”, deactivate the reduced always-on display on the iPhone 14 Pro at the same time. It remains to be seen whether Apple will address these new objections. An option to simplify the always-on display outside of the focus options would be nice.
