The best feature of the new iPhone 14 was discovered by Apple at the Keynote on September 7, 2022 swept under the rug. While the whole world was talking about the bigger camera and the Satellite emergency call option speaks, there is a feature that has not yet received any attention: the iPhone 14 can be opened from the front and back. Apple completely redesigned the iPhone 14 to make it easier to repair
You can see it from the outside new iphone 14 not on. And yet the repair experts at iFixit call it the most important design change to the iPhone in a long time. While the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models still have the old architecture, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus feature the secret redesign of the interior: a central midframe with an accessible screen on the left and a removable back glass the right. (also interesting: That’s why you shouldn’t skimp on repairs!)
That, according to the experts at “iFixit”, is an enormous achievement. Because “the new metal frame that supports the structure requires a complete internal redesign as well as a technical overhaul and an effective doubling of the scope of protection”. In other words, Apple redesigned the iPhone from the ground up to make repairing it massively easier. According to internal documentation obtained by MacRumors, this allows Apple Stores and authorized resellers to swap out parts like the midframe relatively easily. “This is such a big deal that it should have been Apple’s biggest announcement,” said iFixit CEO Kyle Wiens.
The revelation is made clear in a video posted by repair website iFixit on September 20, 2022.
New iPhone 14 design means lower repair costs
The easier the repair, the cheaper the cost. As “MacRumors” suspects, for example, replacing a cracked display for the iPhone 14 or the iPhone 14 Plus should “only” amount to 169 to 199 euros thanks to the redesign inside. That would be about half the current price for a display repair at the Apple store.
