The reason for this is the scarcity of certain components, which will probably continue for some time and may become worse, which are manufactured using a technique called “Low Temperature Cofired Ceramics” (LTCC). Due to their favorable high-frequency properties, these are used in various radio modules, including WLAN chips. Because of the expanded frequency spectrum and the larger number of channels, in the case of Wi-Fi 6E considerably more of these components are required than with previous wireless network standards. Kuo reckons that the iPhone 14’s support for Wi-Fi 6E will ensure that Apple’s main competitors will soon follow suit.
