It’s been over two years since Apple introduced MagSafe to the iPhone. With this technology, Apple not only offers the possibility for accessories to be intelligently attached to the back of the iPhone, it also offers a wireless charging option. The accompanying MagSafe charger has been available since day 1. ChargerLAB addressed the question of whether Apple could make performance improvements when using the MagSafe charger on the iPhone 14 Pro Max compared to the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Comparison: MagSafe charging on iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max

Technically, Apple hasn’t made any real changes since introducing MagSafe since the iPhone 12. However, ChargerLAB found that the iPhone 14 Pro Max charges more efficiently with this technology than the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Tests were conducted using the original Apple MagSafe charger with firmware 247.0.0.0. In the tests, ChargerLAB measured the amount of energy transferred during charging, power spikes, and the time it takes to fully charge the device. While the actual charging technology hasn’t changed, there are a few interesting differences between the iPhone 14 Pro Max and the iPhone 13 Pro Mac.

The test shows that the iPhone 14 Pro was able to keep the charging speed between 16W and 19W longer than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. After 44 minutes of charging, the charging speed with MagSafe Charger on the iPhone 13 Pro Max dropped significantly, while on the iPhone 14 Pro Max it took an hour and four minutes for this to happen.

All in all, the iPhone 14 Pro was fully charged in 2 hours 18 minutes using the MagSafe charger. The iPhone 13 Pro Max needed 2 hours and 26 minutes for this. While the difference isn’t significant, it’s good to know that Apple is constantly making improvements to MagSafe wireless charging technology. According to ChargeLAB, the difference in results is likely due to the improved thermal system in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.
