Apple’s devices can be brought to a battery level of 50 percent in a very short time, and it usually takes less than two and a half hours to fully charge. One of the reasons for this – and also the prerequisite – is the fact that the Californian company equips its own top models with MagSafe. The magnetic ring ensures the perfect placement on a corresponding wireless charger, such as Apple’s MagSafe charger, and thus for high performance and maximum efficiency.

iPhone 13 Pro Max vs iPhone 14 Pro Max
According to Apple’s product descriptions, the MagSafe technology in its own smartphones has hardly changed since it was introduced in the iPhone 12. However, the ChargerLAB website, which specializes in power supplies and power banks as well as chargers and cables, found evidence during an initial test of the iPhone 14 that the latest generation can be supplied with energy somewhat faster than the earlier models. The experts therefore decided to have an iPhone 13 Pro Max and an iPhone 14 Pro Max compete against each other in a direct comparison. Apple’s MagSafe Charger ( Store-Link) on which the firmware version 247.0.0.0 was installed. Both smartphones ran iOS 16 and were in a climate box at 25 degrees Celsius during the campaign.

iPhone 14 Pro Max keeps high charging power longer
In the course of the tests, ChargerLAB continuously determined the charging currents and voltages using an appropriate measuring device. The charging curves recorded in this way provided information about how the two devices receive energy wirelessly. The iPhone 14 Pro Max accepted power between 16 and 19 watts significantly longer than the iPhone 13 Pro Max, namely one hour and four minutes. Last year’s model reduced its performance after just 44 minutes. Apple’s current smartphone generation can be brought to a battery level of 50 percent much faster. The experts suspect that the reason for this is that the Californian company has made thermal improvements to the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

iPhone 13 Pro Max almost equal at 100 percent
As the charging progressed, however, the iPhone 13 Pro Max was able to almost make up for the initial lead of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. While the current model reached a battery level of 100 percent after two hours and 18 minutes, the previous model only needed slightly more time at two hours and 26 minutes. As a result, there should hardly be a difference in everyday use. However, when it comes to making a smartphone with an empty battery usable again for a few hours as quickly as possible, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is clearly ahead. It is definitely faster with both devices but with a power supply unit and charging cable.
