The changes to the Pixel 7 (Pro) camera could be bigger than expected.
The time of the great revolutions in smartphones has been over for a while now. Instead, the manufacturers improve the new generations, especially in the details. The Google Pixel 7 (Pro) should also represent a rather manageable leap from the previous model.
But according to a new leak, at least one Pro version camera will do more than industry experts previously expected. The US side 9to5Google shared the full specifications of the new smartphone. In one point, Google should even be able to beat Apple’s new top model, the iPhone 14 Pro. The statements of the data sheet are supported by advertising films for the Pixel 7 Pro, which the leaker SnoopyTech shared on Twitter.

Pixel 7 Pro: Even more optical zoom than Apple
The basic version of the Pixel 7 takes over most of the camera specs from the previous version. Again, a main camera with 50 megapixels will be installed, as well as a 12 MP ultra wide lens. There is a 10.8 MP selfie camera on the front. The Pixel 7, on the other hand, does without a telephoto lens.
If you don’t want to do without telephoto photography, you have to use the Pro version of the Pixel 7. This takes the other three lenses of the basic version and expands them with the telephoto lens with 48 megapixels. There is also an improved optical and hybrid (part optical, part digital) zoom. Compared to Apple, the lead is being extended even further here.

Why is optical zoom important on smartphones? It is true that most smartphones today provide a significantly larger digital zoom than the three, four or five times mentioned above. However, the software-side enlargement is accompanied by a loss of image quality.
With optical zoom, on the other hand, enlargement is achieved by mechanically moving the lens and adjusting the focal length. The result is an enlarged image without sacrificing image quality.
New Google features: Macro Focus and Movie Motion Blur
There is also something new on the software side: the Pro model will not have the camera feature Macro focus
. The Movie motion blur
is also available for the standard variant. As 9to5Google suspects, the former could be a way of using the telephoto lens for macro photography.
The latter could be similar to Apple’s Cinematic Mode
Set several focus points in the image and use them to individually focus or blur the foreground, middle ground and background.
So while Google is apparently gaining a further lead in optical zoom with the Pixel 7 Pro, it is gaining ground over Apple when it comes to filming high-quality videos.
However, they seem to want to get closer to Apple not only in terms of videos, but also in terms of price. As GameStar editor Patrick reports, the Pixel 7 will probably be the most expensive Google smartphone to date:

The Pixel 7 data sheet also mentions a Face Unlock option, i.e. unlocking the smartphone using face recognition – also a frequently requested function for new Google smartphones.

Pixel watch: Thinner than expected
In addition to new information about Google’s upcoming smartphones, there were also pictures of the search engine provider’s first smartwatch on the weekend. on Reddit one user shared photos of his Pixel Watch. According to the user, he has not yet been able to turn on the smartwatch. However, the watch is thinner than expected.
More pictures came from Droid life. However, these do not show the Pixel Watch itself, but the watch straps of the Smartwatch, known as the Active Band, in the two colors of chalk and lemongrass. The bands are said to only work with the Pixel Watch and will not be compatible with any other smartwatch.
