- Satellite communication should find its way into the iPhone 14.
- The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max are set to get the A15 chip.
- The iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max will get the more powerful A16 SoC.
The US side 9to5Mac has interesting details about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 14 generation. As expected, there will be four iPhone variants with display sizes of 6.1 and 6.7 inches. There will be no direct successor to the 5.4-inch iPhone 13 Mini.
Slightly larger screen
The two Pro variants of the iPhone have a slightly larger screen compared to the previous generation, according to the report. According to 9to5Mac, the reason is the presumed discontinuation of the well-known Face ID system and the introduction of the “Notch+Pill” design.
It is also interesting to look at the chips used. While the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are the spearhead with the SoC, which is probably called A16, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max should continue to build on the A15 Bionic. We already know this chipset from the iPhone 13 and the iPhone SE of the third generation.
Satellite communication on the iPhone 14
There were already reports of satellite communication during the rumor phase of the iPhone 13 series. Now it should be available in the iPhone 14 in September 2022.
The technology is to be understood as a kind of communication backup. If the network fails or is overloaded, iPhones could connect via satellite. Both sending messages and making phone calls are possible, albeit with a slower connection setup. You can find out everything we know about the iPhone 14 in the linked overview article.
