Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has quite good contacts, who occasionally give him internal information from Apple. His current newsletter brings together a few things, but if you follow the reports, you often find statements that you have heard so often. For example, the current rumors about the iPhone 14 were chewed through again.

The relative sales figures of the largest and the smallest model are said to have caused Apple to reconsider the product range. The Max model is extremely popular, especially in China, while the Mini model doesn’t sell well enough to even be on sale. So here is the solution Apple is said to be planning for the iPhone 14:

6.1-inch iPhone 14
6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max
6.1 inch iPhone 14 Pro
6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max

So for the first time, the non-Pro iPhone range will get a 6.7-inch screen option. Gurman thinks this version of the phone will be very popular as users will now be able to get Apple’s largest sized iPhone for at least $200 less than before. Sounds logical at first if you like the Max devices. Since the devices also have to differ, you just have to slim down the non-Pro-Max.

Gurman claims the new 48-megapixel sensor for the wide-angle camera will only be found on the Pro models. The regular iPhone 14 line will stick with a 12-megapixel sensor. As previously reported, the Pro models will get Apple’s new A16 chip, while the standard models will likely get last year’s A15 or some variant thereof. Aside from wanting the Pro to stand out from the other models, chip shortages may have contributed to that decision, they say.

In addition to the cosmetic improvements, Apple is still working on adding satellite connectivity to the iPhone. The company initially wanted to add the feature to last year’s model, but now the capability may be ready this time. This is also said of the Apple Watch 8. The feature is intended for reporting emergencies or sending short texts to emergency contacts when out of cellular network coverage, not for making phone calls.

What else? Of course, new Macs. Should stand in front of the door:

an M2 chip for a new MacBook Air, an entry-level MacBook Pro, and a Mac mini.

M2 Pro and M2 Max chips for a new 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro

A dual M2 Ultra chip for the Mac Pro.

He can then also make the following statement relatively easily: M3 chips are coming, but no longer in 2022. A lot will happen before that happens, for example the WWDC, Apple’s developer conference, before all new products are presented. It takes place in June (6th to 10th). Then Apple will introduce iOS 16, watchOS 9, macOS 13 and a host of other major software updates for its devices.
