Iphone 14 | Samsung Display supplies OLED panels for the iPhone 14 | apple iphone

Samsung Display is busy developing new and advanced OLED displays and is expected to deliver organic OLED panels for the iPhone 14, which is expected to launch in the second half of 2022.

Samsung Display will exclusively supply the organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) for the iPhone 14 Pro. Samsung Display has a share of more than 70 percent of the global market for small and medium-sized OLED panels.

Samsung Display uses LTPO (Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) technology to manufacture its panels. This technology was first developed by Apple in 2014, but Samsung Display was the first company to mass-produce OLED panels using this technology.

LTPO panels are more expensive and more complicated than OLED panels made from low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS). But they use less electricity. Apple is expected to use these LTPO OLED panels for the Apple 14 Pro and Pro Max.

What is LTPO technology? How does it work?

LTPO is a backplane technology that combines both LTPS TFTs and Oxide TFTs (IGZO, Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide) to enable a variable display refresh rate that dynamically depends on various conditions and consumes 15 percent or less power. This is the reason why today’s AMOLED panels use this technology.

The LTPO panels made by the Chinese companies, while inexpensive, will be below Samsung’s standard.
