Iphone 14 | The Apple iPhone 14 Pro has an older Snapdragon 5G modem that enables the satellite connection | apple iphone

Like a teardown of WekiHome shows, use both the Apple iPhone 14 (approx. 999 euros on Amazon) and the iPhone 14 Pro both feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 5G modem that was unveiled back in February 2021, although the newer Snapdragon X70 5G modem was unveiled that February. It is not known whether this is due to the fact that the new modem is simply not yet available in sufficient quantities, or whether Apple wants to save costs with this step.

However, the Snapdragon X70 5G modem offers a whole range of exciting upgrades, including up to 60 percent lower power consumption, faster upload speeds of up to 3.5 Gbps thanks to 4X carrier aggregation, and lower latency. AI algorithms are said to increase the speed by 12 to 26 percent in practice, depending on the signal strength. Nevertheless, the older Snapdragon X65 supports what is probably the most important feature for Apple: the n53 strap.

Because this enables the iPhone 14 to connect to the Globalstar satellite network, which allows the smartphone to make emergency calls even when no cellular network is available, although this feature is only available in the US and Canada for now. Apple has opposite Reuters stated that in addition to the Snapdragon X65 5G modem, the iPhone 14 has proprietary hardware and software specially developed for the iPhone 14 that allows messages to be sent via satellite, but without giving further details.
