As the comparison embedded above clearly shows, the combination of the 48MP sensor and 118mm equivalent lens pays off to capture more detail at longer zoom than the 12MP sensor and 77mm lens of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. DxOMark also criticizes the sometimes somewhat imprecise white balance, the image noise in low light and the sometimes overexposed areas in landscape shots.
Still, DxOMark’s analysis shows many positive aspects of the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s cameras, including accurate skin tones, beautiful color reproduction, high dynamic range in both photos and videos, top-notch autofocus, and excellent video stabilization. The telephoto camera is also convincing, at least up to a medium zoom range, while the bokeh simulation receives the best rating of all smartphones tested by DxOMark thanks to the LiDAR scanner.
