In particular, the wired transfer of large RAW photos or 4K videos takes just as long with the iPhone 14 Pro as with last year’s models, since the Lightning port of the new Apple smartphone unfortunately still only achieves the speeds of the outdated USB 2.0 standard. Some interested parties should therefore perhaps wait for the first iPhone with USB-C.

As most Apple fans should already be familiar with, the smartphone manufacturer from Cupertino, California, is also using the tried and tested Lightning port for the iPhone 14 Pro that is now available celebrates. Unfortunately, the proprietary interface is also responsible for buyers of the regular iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro (from 1,299 euros at Amazon) continue to have to live with a somewhat annoying limitation.

According to one Report by MacRumors The Lightning port of the iPhone 14 Pro still only offers the data transfer rates of the USB 2.0 standard. Ideally, these are around 480 Mbit or 60 MB per second, which can be described as fairly slow for wired transmissions these days. This bottleneck can be particularly noticeable when transferring large 4K video files and ProRAW photos, which each weigh around 75MB. The USB-C standard, which is not used on the iPhone 14 Pro, would meanwhile enable transfer rates of up to 10 Gbit per second.

Apple therefore also recommends wireless data transfer for the iPhone 14 Pro via its in-house iCloud services or the practical AirDrop feature, which is only available on Macs. If faster wired data transfer is still important to you, you should probably reconsider buying the iPhone 14 Pro and wait for the iPhone 15, which will be released next year. According to rumors, this should finally be based on the USB-C standard already mentioned. Similar to the iPad, the high-priced Pro models could possibly even offer Thunderbolt 4 support.
