This is China’s answer to the iPhone 14

Xiaomi is now the third largest smartphone maker in the world after Samsung and Apple. The Chinese started out with mainly cheap products, but have since blossomed into a technology leader with numerous in-house developments. Now, for the first time, the company has held a large, international presentation of new products in Munich. Among the products presented is Xiaomi’s answer to Apple’s new iPhone 14. BILD presents the most important innovations.

12T instead of 14

The most important news is Xiaomi’s top smartphone 12T and the associated Pro version. Both models have a 6.67-inch AMOLED display (1220×2712 pixels @ 120 Hertz, 500 nits) and a 5000mAh battery that charges up to 120 watts. A Dimensity 8100 Ultra from Mediatek calculates in the 12T, and a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 from Qualcomm is in the Pro model.

The 12T’s camera has three sensors: a 108-megapixel chip behind a wide-angle optic, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle optic and a 2-megapixel macro camera.

The Pro model has the same two secondary cameras, but there is a 200-megapixel sensor behind the wide-angle lens of the main camera. It was developed together with Samsung, but has so far only been used in cell phones from Xiaomi and Motorola.

Despite the top technical equipment, Xiaomi relies on competitive prices for Germany: The 12T costs 599 euros with 128 gigabytes of memory, 649 euros with 256 GB. The 12T Pro is only available with 256 GB. It costs 799 euros, which is significantly cheaper than Apple’s entry-level model of the iPhone 14 (which has less storage, a smaller display and a weaker camera). All three versions will start shipping on October 13th.

Technology for humans and animals

In addition to the new smartphones, Xiaomi also showed a lot of other devices in Munich. These include the Redmi Buds 4 Pro (99 euros) and Redmi Buds 4 (59 euros) headphones. Both devices support active noise cancellation, the most important difference: the Buds 4 have to be charged after six hours, the Buds 4 Pro last up to nine hours.

With the new pad, there is also a tablet from Xiaomi’s Redmi series. The device with a 10.6-inch display (2000×1200 pixels @ 90 Hertz, 400 nits) has a strong battery (8000 mAh), a mid-range processor (Mediatek Helio G99) and is available with 64 gigabytes from 299 euros.

Another novelty: the Xiaomi Smart Band 7 Pro is a fitness tracker with simple smartwatch functions, sleep tracking, 110 sports modes and GPS location. It is water resistant to 5 ATM and runs for up to 12 days on a single charge. Price 99 euros.

Xiaomi even had products on offer for animals. The Smart Pet Food Feeder (129 euros) provides lonely dogs and cats with food on a regular basis, the Pet Water Fountain (79 euros) simulates flowing water so that animals can always find fresh water.

The Robot Vacuum X10+ (899 euros) and the Truclean W10 Ultra Dry Vacuum (799 euros) also presented in Munich vacuum and wipe all household dirt either automatically or by hand.

The Pet Feeder fits 1.8 kilograms of dry food, but unfortunately the damn device doesn't give it all at once
