The takeover of the Hessian battery manufacturer Akasol by the US automotive supplier Borgwarner has finally been completed. The merger of Akasol with Borgwarner has been successfully completed, the company announced on Tuesday in Darmstadt. The Akasol ordinary shares are therefore no longer traded on the Brse. Akasol is to be continued as an independent brand.
The company founder and former head of the Darmstdt company, Sven Schulz, will remain in an advisory capacity until the middle of the year. Responsible for Akasol is now Borgwarner manager Henk Vanthournout.
A good 370 employees
Founded in 2008, the company manufactures lithium-ion battery systems for buses, trains, trucks, industrial vehicles and ships and wants to benefit from the increasing electrification of heavy vehicles. Customers include Daimler, Alstom and Volvo. At the end of June 2021, the number of employees was a good 370. Akasol expects new market additions from the takeover by the US Group, which is active in more than 20 countries and is significantly larger. (dpa/gem)
