Football and Corona – EMZ Eifel-Mosel-Zeitung

Game operations in the regional association Southwest and in the regional associations of the FVR and SWFV will continue even after the introduction of the 2G rule

In the run-up to the publication of the 29th Corona Protection Ordinance of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, both the Southwest Football Regional Association, the Rhineland Football Association and the Southwest German Football Association come to the conclusion that from Saturday, December 4, the 2G rule will apply. This means that people over the age of 18 can only play football outdoors if they can prove 2G status, i.e. have been vaccinated or have recovered. In the field of children’s and youth football, the three associations assume that special regulations will continue to apply, which will enable this age group to continue to compete and train in popular and recreational sports in the future. The control of the vaccination status is to be carried out in the senior as well as in the youth area by the host or organizing association.

The executive committees of the Southwest Regional Association, the Rhineland Football Association and the Southwest German Football Association have dealt with the expected changes in the 29th Corona Ordinance at short notice after in-depth discussions with the chairmen of the game technology committees and decided the following for all their playing classes:

  1. Game operations will continue even after the introduction of the so-called 2G rule. According to the announcements of the political decision-makers, it is to be expected that the 2G status will in future be a prerequisite for participation in public life and thus also in sport. Since a fundamental change in the framework conditions is not expected for the time being, a short-term cessation of gaming operations due to the introduction of the 2G regulation would therefore be equated with a long-term suspension of gaming operations.
  2. Due to the expected short-term announcement of the regulation, considerable problems can arise in the organizational implementation of the mostly voluntary structured amateur clubs. Therefore, the clubs can apply to the responsible relay manager for all games scheduled for December 2021 to be relocated via e-mail or in the DFBnet. In this particular case, the consent of the respective opponent is not required for a transfer. The game is scheduled for the New Year by the relay leader. This means that all footballers who are not yet fully vaccinated will have the opportunity to do so as soon as possible and thus not miss a team game. The football associations hope to be able to support the vaccination campaign of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in this way.
