With the new Macbook Pro M2, Apple has made a first-class notebook even better. how our first tests show, the new Macbook Pro 2022 is currently Apple’s best notebook and delivers better performance than the previous model. The buyer receives an excellent notebook without any weaknesses. If you still own a Macbook Pro M1, there is probably no reason to change soon.
The previous model presented in 2021 is by no means outdated and may be the better buy. Apple exaggerated the price a bit: Even the entry-level model with a 14-inch display now costs 2,399 euros in the Apple Store, the big brother with a 16-inch display from 2,999 euros. The M1 predecessors were already significantly cheaper in the Apple Store and currently cost almost 15 percent to 20 percent less than the successor models. Many dealers currently still have these devices in stock. The new models, on the other hand, have only just appeared, and there will only be cheap offers in the coming weeks.
Tip: The previous models are currently particularly cheap Apple’s Refurbished Store to have. You can get them here for 1,729 or 2,109 euros, including some models with a Max chip. More about the refurbished store read here.
These are the innovations of the new models
The new M2 CPUs aren’t a huge technical leap, but they offer a noticeable performance improvement. Compared to equivalent M1 Pro or M1 Max versions, the CPU performance is about 20 percent better, the graphics performance by 30 percent. However, the performance of the previous models should be sufficient for many applications. One should not forget that the increase in performance of the new Macbook Pro is partly based on additional CPU and graphics cores. However, not every program can benefit from this.
There are other details that Apple has improved. This is the first time you can connect an 8K display. This resolution is still extremely rare on desktop monitors, but it can already be seen more often on expensive TVs, for example. Another improvement is the faster WLAN 6E, which allows higher transfer rates – if you use a suitable router. According to Apple, the battery life is also about an hour longer. However, these improvements are probably only relevant for individual users. If you still own a Macbook Pro M1, there is probably no reason to change soon.

Waiting for 3nm technology?
By the way, there is another reason to skip the 2023 model: The M2-Pro and M2-Max are still based on almost the same 5nm technology as the M1-Pro and M1-Max. Apple has only moderately increased the performance, a far greater leap in performance can only be expected with the M3 of the next generation – the Macbook Pro 2024 or Late 2023 …
This is said to be based on the new 3 nm technology, which promises higher performance with lower energy consumption.
